Singani "63" Bolivian Muscat Brandy (750ml)

Just when you think you've tasted every type of booze known to man, you discover that there are yet more regionally specific spirits being distilled in places you've never considered. Take Bolivia, for example. In Bolivia they make a pisco-like spirit called Singani, distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Andes mountains. Seeing that Muscat is an aromatic varietal, known for its fruity and floral character, the Singani spirit distilled from it takes on many of the perfumes found in the expressive grape. The result is a clean and vib ...

Gin Mare Mediterranean Gin (750ml)

Gin Mare is a product we discovered in Scotland, of all places, years ago while searching for single malt. The retailer across the street from our hotel in Edinburgh was featuring the gin in a tasting that evening and we went over to check it out. Distilled in Spain with olives, rosemary, basil, and thyme, it's a savory and truly Mediterranean experience. The herbs never overpower the palate, however, as the balance between them is quite delicate and refined. It's definitely an ideal choice for martinis, paired with olives, of course.

Right Gin From Sweden (750ml)

Made with "soft" water from Lake Bolmen in southern Sweden, known for its arctic purity, neutral corn spirits five-times distilled that lends sweetness to the gin and a blend of classic botanicals including juniper, coriander leaf and cardamom. The blend creates a gin with a warm, nutty spice punctuated by the addition of citrus (lemon, bergamot, lime and bitter orange) and sarawak black pepper, for a clean, refreshing gin with no funky aftertaste or astringency. Beautiful! Skip the tonic water with this gin; it's perfect unadulterated.

Martin Miller's Westbourne Strength London Dry Gin (750ml)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Crisp and classic, this gin is ideal for martinis. A light cucumber aroma leads the nose, opening up with more cucumber and juniper on the palate, finishing smooth and brisk on nutmeg and coriander accents. (KN)" (08/2016) K&L Notes: Miller's Gin is handcrafted and made in very small batches. It's then transported by ship to Iceland. Here, in the small village of Borgarnes, on Iceland's remote west coast, lies the Selyri spring, source of some of the purest water to be found on earth. Dancing pink elephants? No this beer is not like watching Dumbo under the influence of psychedelics, but it is intense. Made by Huyghe-Melle, the oldest still-active brewery in Ghent, Belgium. Their best known brew--and perhaps one of the best-known Belgian beers in all the U.S.--is the Delirium Tremens, a blonde ale with mouth-coating malt flavors, bitter peppery notes and bright, complementary fruit.

The palate entry is bittersweet, concentrated and beany; at midpalate the flavor profile becomes sweeter and more like vanilla extract. The bean intensity reaches its bittersweet zenith in the high-flying aftertaste. Chic, racy, and delicious. *Superb, Highly Recommended*" (06/2006) K&L Notes: Distilled and bottled on the island paradise of Mauritius. The locally grown cane matures on volcanic soils, whi ...

Ming River Sichuan Baijiu 750ml

The incredible history of Chinese of fermenting Sorghum and other grains for alcohol production is thousands of years old. There's evidence that those grains were being distilled as early as 800 BC. Modern Baijiu production begins in earnest around the 13th century. The biggest difference between grain alcohol production in China and Europe in terms of technology has to do with the use of solid state fermentation. Instead of using enzymes from malting grain, the Chinese developed a system of bacteria fermentation (much like Koji in Sake production), but ...

Brouwerij Boon Framboise, Belgium (375ml)

From the brewery: "Raspberry lambic was once a rarity and only produced for a few weeks during the summer. Frank Boon was the first brewer to again prepare a raspberry lambic in the summer of 1976. More than 300 grams per litre of fresh raspberries give Framboise Boon a fresh fruity taste. The young lambic supports the flavour. But this is very much about raspberries, not the lambic. Of course we do not use artificial flavourings, only real raspberries. Boon Framboise has an alcohol volume of 5%. Drink it when it is young."

Hanssens "Oudbeitje" Strawberry Lambic, Belgium (375ml)

Nowadays, juices (or even worse, syrups) are replacing fruit in many lambics you find on the shelves. Hanssens Artisanaal uses only real black cherries (Kriek) and real fresh strawberries for its fruit beers. This strawberry lambic is never sweet or overtly fruity, rather it shows the essence of strawberry amid the famework of a tart, dry complex lambic beer. Amazing stuff, and proof that true lambics are still produced in the wonderful land of Belgium. Hooay!
