2004 Moulin-Haut-Laroque, Fronsac

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big time sleeper of the vintage from Fronsac, this beauty from proprietor Jean-Noel Herve has hit the bull’s eye. A dark ruby/purple color is accompanied by notes of black currants, sweet cherries, crushed rocks, and a distinctive minerality. It is a medium to full-bodied, structured effort with sweet tannin, decent acidity, and oodles of fruit as well as richness. (RP)" (06/2007) Wine Spectator: "Aromas of black cherries, flowers and fresh herbs follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with firm tannins and ...

Top Pick!
2004 Krug Brut Champagne

97 points James Suckling: "This is an extremely fresh edition and remains in a restrained mode with an intense serve of Chardonnay's lemon citrus dominating the nose alongside lime zest, bright florals, grassy elements, fresh dough, white stones and very subtle background spice. The palate has a svelte and elegant shape. Smoother than the 2002, it shares the same quality of precision but not the raging power of that vintage. The poise is unquestionable, the wine very reserved, with plenty of lemon-infused citrus flavors, hints of fresh cashew and a lot o ...

2004 Château Tirecul la Gravière "Cuvée Chateau" Monbazillac (500ml) (Elsewhere $30)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tirecul’s sweet and decadent 2004 Cuvee Chateau exhibits apricot/peach marmalade, creme brulee and maple syrup aromas and flavors in a full-bodied, unctuous, but well-balanced, pure style. This dessert wine is already remarkably evolved, and should drink well for another 10-15 years - good luck deferring your gratification! As always, this wine is a sensational value. (RP)" (06/2014) K&L Notes: Just a little south of Sauternes lies the region of Monbazillac not far from the town of Bergerac. Similar in fashion ...

2004 l'Avocat "Cuvée Speciale", Graves

This was the 2nd vintage from Sean Allison-released to us again in 2019. I’m excited to introduce to you our latest DI – Direct import from Bordeaux; Ch. L’Avocat from the small commune of Cerons which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier this year. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost eight weeks lat ...

2004 Arietta Napa Valley Claret

From the winery: "The first Arietta Claret, the 2004 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 14% Petit Verdot from vineyards farmed by David Abreu at the top of Howell Mountain. The relatively high percentage of Petit Verdot gives the wine great depth and staying power. Best held until 2008 and beyond."

2004 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Beautiful wine, lush and soft in the style of this warm vintage. It’s immediately enjoyable for the wealth of cherries, blackberries and raspberries, with a decadent edge of melted milk chocolate. Oak adds extra dimensions of smoky vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and gingerbread. *Editors' Choice* " (08/2007) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even richer and fuller than the regular bottling, but at the same time hedonistically and voluptuously styled is the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection. Dense ruby/purple ...

2004 Jones Family "The Sisters" Napa Valley Red Blend

This wine, made by Napa powerhouse Heidi Peterson Barret, is sold out at the winery, but it is a must-have for fans of bold Napa reds. The "younger sister" to the Jones Family Cab, this is a blend of Cab and Cab Franc that practically bounces out of the glass with its exuberant blueberry and cassis aromas, but is kept grounded by sultry spice. There's a fine dusting of cocoa powder on the mid palate, and a firm structure and already-integrated tannins that show that while this may be the winery's second label, it's all about a first-rate experience.

2004 Smith Woodhouse LBV Port

92 points Wine Spectator: "Showing the benefits of maturity, with a core of gently steeped plum, blackberry and black currant fruit that slowly morphs into warm ganache, singed cinnamon stick and mulled wine accents on the finish, all while keeping its energy up. Drink now through 2021. (JM)" (02/2019) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Straight up-and-down delicious, this is a Port that’s ready to drink, focused on flavor dimension rather than hyperconcentration. It’s gentle and refined, with a smoky edge to its bright plum and bitter almond flavors, chocolat ...

2004 Fettercairn 14 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml) (Previously $60)

The tumultuous ownership history of Fettercairn has been in part responsible for the lack of brand recognition. While it has long been bottled as a single malt, it has never gained much notoriety that way and the bulk of its stocks end up in blends, most recently for Whyte and Mackay. An interesting production set up, particularly from 1995 to 2009 when they used stainless steel condensers, has lent itself to a nutty and heavy style to the malt. Fortunately for K&L drinkers, this 14 year old whisky has taken that natural style and matured into a oily, ri ...

2004 Catena Zapata "Nicolás Catena Zapata" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Catena Zapata’s flagship is the Nicolas Catena Zapata, a Cabernet Sauvignon-Malbec blend. The 2004 Nicolas Catena Zapata is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Malbec. It spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. A saturated black purple in color, it has an aristocratic perfume of pain grille, mineral, espresso, saddle leather, cassis, black currant, and black raspberry. Opulently textured, complex, ripe, and sweet on the palate, it maintains a sense of elegance as well as power. It demands 10-15 years of fu ...

2004 Domaine Tortochot Chambertin Grand Cru

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here there is also noticeable if not dominant wood spice that frames the admirably elegant, restrained and very pure, cool and almost airy red berry fruit and intense earth notes that grandly introduce the big-bodied, powerful and mineral-driven flavors that possess strikingly good definition and punch on the austere and stunningly long finish. This too is a bit oaky at present but there is really impressive underlying material. Bravo. " (01/2008) K&L Notes: Burghound's producer note: "For readers who may be unfami ...

2004 David Bruce Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir

This wine combines Pinot Noir from David Bruce's Estate vineyard and that of several small family-owned vineyards. All of these quality oriented vineyard sites benefit from the cooling influences of the Pacific Ocean extending our growing season, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve mature flavors without becoming overripe. The Estate vineyard adds a solid backbone structure to hold the dense black cherry fruit it contributes.

2004 Kopke Colheita Port

This is hardly a classic, long-term vintage, but it's almost ready to be a hugely enjoyable wine. For lovers of rich, almost sweet Zinfandel, go back to the original model with this wine. (RV)" (11/2007) Wine Spectator: "Offers loads of mineral, mint and crushed blackberry character. Full-bodied, with a medium sweetness and a long, caressing finish. A very balanced, pretty wine. 2004 Turley "Pesenti" Paso Robles Zinfandel

90-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From Paso Robles’ limestone soils, the 2004 Zinfandel Pesenti Vineyard could pass for a Grenache-based southern Rhone with its striking minerality, pepper and kirsch liqueur-like notes. Full-bodied, but remarkably fresh (thanks to the limestone), it possesses 16+% alcohol, but that component is well-concealed by the wine’s fruit and structure. The wine is aged in 100% French oak of which 20% is new. Dark ruby/purple in color, it has an expressive nose of spice box, coffee, black cherry and blackberry. Made in a racy style, with good acidity, this wine admirably combines ripe, sweet fruit with elegance. Drink it over the next 6-8 years. Kudos to Dominio Atauta! With this cuvee, about 25% new American oak is added to the regime of French wood. Full-bodied with stunning, dusty, loamy soil characteristics interwoven with blackberry, cassis, cherry, and plum-like fruit, this rich, pure, intense Shiraz should be consumed over the next 10-12+ years. From the very first taste, the 2004 is utterly spectacular. Rich, ample and vertical in feel, the 2004 is dazzling. An inky/purple color is accompanied by a glorious perfume of creosote/melted road tar, blackberry and cassis liqueur, pepper, and spice. This deep, rich, full-bodied, tannic Shiraz should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and will last for two decades or more. It is the finest Dead Arm since the 2001. 2004 Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez Tinto Pesquera Crianza, Ribera del Duero

93 points from the Wine Advocate! They say, "The 2004 Tinto Pesquera (Crianza), from a great vintage, is opaque purple with a fragrant nose of lead pencil, earth, black currants, and blackberry liqueur that jumps from the glass. This is followed by a sexy wine with layered blue and black fruits intertwined with ripe tannins and good acidity. 2004 Araujo "Altagracia" Napa Valley Red Blend

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Despite having over 40-plus acres of vineyards in the northeasterly sector of Napa just south of Calistoga, the production at Araujo remains relatively limited, with the flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, producing between 1,600 and 2,200 cases of wine, and the second wine, the Altagracia, between 800 and 1,200 cases. This wine is showing fabulously well out of bottle, with complex earthy, gamey, smoky notes of burning embers and charcoal as well as black cherry and black currant fruit. The wine is broad, full-bodied, powerful, and rich. It is a beautiful homage to the famed luxury cuvee called Jacques Perrin from Chateau Beaucastel. 2004 Castello di Monsanto "Nemo Mulino" Toscana

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In 2004 the Nemo (Cabernet Sauvignon) shares a lot of stylistic qualities with Il Poggio. It is more varietally expressive than the 2003 Nemo tasted alongside it, with dark cherries, menthol, spices and sweet herbs that flow from its powerful, layered frame. It reveals considerable depth not to mention tons of potential although it comes across as somewhat reticent today. The wine’s dense ruby/purple color is followed by a beautiful, Pauillac-like (think Pontet Canet or Mouton), ethereal perfume of creme de cassis, or as Michael Broadbent used to say, 'celestial black currants,' full body, a velvety texture, fine tannins, a multidimensional mouthfeel, and a terrific finish. ...
