1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac

100 points Decanter: "Wonderful, concentrated and still astonishingly young, this has brushes of violet aromatics rising above the tight cassis fruits and rich black truffle, and the classic menthol edging of a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated Pauillac. We drank this over lunch and it was breathtaking, but were told that 24 hours later it had blossomed even further, so make sure you give this a serious amount of time in carafe to open up - something that gives you just a small clue as to how structured, layered and complex the wine we are dealing with here i ...

1986 Talbot, St-Julien

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A fabulous wine, and one of the two greatest Talbots of the last 50 years, this wine still has a very murky garnet/plum/purple color and a spectacular nose of sweet creme de cassis intermixed with freshly ground pepper, melted road tar, herbes de Provence, and beef blood. It is followed by an enormously concentrated wine of full body, layers of concentration and sweet tannin. The wine seems to be just hitting its plateau of maturity, where it should last for at least 10-15 more years. A prodigious Talbot. (RP)" ( ...

1986 Laurel Glen Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In the second series of 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon tastings, I knew some mystery wines had been inserted. When I tasted this wine, I thought it was the 1982 Leoville Las Cases. Laurel Glen's 1986 Cabernet exhibits a youthful, dense, deep ruby/purple color with virtually no signs of age. Pure, black-cherry and cassis fruit, mineral notes, and well-integrated wood aromas leisurely emerged with coaxing. Tannic and full-bodied, as well as enormously rich, well-endowed, and extracted, with excellent integrated acidity, a ...

1986 Léoville-Las-Cases, St-Julien

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The late Michel Delon always thought that this was the greatest vintage he had produced. We often tasted it side by side with the 1982, because I always preferred the latter vintage. Of course, the two vintages are quite different in style, with the 1986 a monument to classicism, with great tannin, extraordinary delineation, and a huge, full-bodied nose of sweet, ripe cassis fruit intermixed with vanilla, melon, fruitcake, and a multitude of spices. The wine has always been phenomenally concentrated, yet wonderf ...

1986 Chateau de Ravignan Bas-Armagnac (750ml)

From the importer: "Castles have graced the property of what is now the Château de Ravignan since the 12th century. The name "Ravignan" itself comes from the deep ravines surrounding the property that once served as a natural defense. The château was later occupied by feudal barons and partially destroyed during the religious wars of the 16th century. In the mid-17th century, a Louis XIII manor was built on the property. Vineyards were planted in 1732. Around the same time, the property was sold to Jean La Croix, who later took the name Ravignan."

1986 La Jota Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Praise from Robert Parker: "Proprietors Bill and Joan Smith are two of the nicest, most modest vineyard/winery owners I have ever met. They have turned La Jota into one of the great names in California winedom. Along with Randy Dunn, Peter Michael, and Beringer, they are getting more out of Howell Mountain fruit than any other California producer." (12/1995)

1986 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

95 points Decanter: "Marvellous old Bordeaux with delicate cassis, graphite, and faded violet nuances. A legendary wine for this estate, equal to the 1982 but ageing better. (ID)" (10/2014) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Now at 30 years of age, there is a gulf between the two Pichons in this vintage that no longer exists. The 1986 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande has long been one of the best wines from the estate alongside the 1982 (even if the first bottle was a little oxidized). The second bottle was representative. It has a classic ...

1986 Cheval Blanc, St-Emilion

93 points John Gilman: "The 1986 Cheval Blanc is a beautiful wine and one of the sleeper vintages for this fine estate in the decade of the 1980s. The really refined and lovely nose wafts from the glass in a complex mélange of dark berries, menthol, cigar ash, herbal tones, soil, espresso and a deft touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, suave and classy, with a fine core of fruit, modest, ripe tannins and a very long, still modestly austere and perfectly balanced finish. All this lovely wine needs is just a bit more time in the c ...

1986 Girard "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine stood out as one of the deepest and youngest wines of the tasting. With a barrel sample-like, dark ruby/purple color (with no hint of amber or garnet), it tastes three or four years old! The tight nose opens with extended airing to reveal rich, chocolatey, cassis aromas backed up by smoky new oak. Dense and full-bodied, as well as tannic and acidic, the wine possesses considerable extract and intensity. I hope the acidity and tannin begin to become better meshed. If not, this wine will ultimately begin ...

1986 Jordan Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "Ripe, smooth, rich, complex and wonderfully proportioned, with currant, plum, nutmeg and cedar flavors that are agile and balanced." (11/1990) K&L Notes: "Though still showing firm acidity, the 1986 Jordan's tannins have completely softened, and the color is beginning to fade. Subtle prune and dried plum on the nose follows through to a pleasant balance of dried herbs and leather on the palate, which evolves into a juicy, tea and cherry finish." - Winery Note (06/2016)

1986 Bruichladdich 30 Year Old Rare Cask Series "Sherry: The Magnificent Seven" Unpeated Islay Single Malt Whisky (black tin) (750ml)

The final seven casks from the '86 vintage aged in Oloroso sherry butts until being transfered to fresh Fernando di Castilla Pedro Ximinez casks for 4 years of additional maturation. This tiny release of some of Bruichladdich's oldest stocks are proof that the unpeated Islay can age just as gracefully as some of her smokey neighbors. Only 4200 bottles of this special whisky were produced and sold exclusively in the US so expect the international collectors to be on the hunt.

1986 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1986 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien (1.5L) (97DC, 96RP, 95ST). Decanter: "Both vintages of Gruaud-Larose absolutely stand out in this lineup, and I recommend them both for thoroughly enjoyable drinking today. This was pretty monolithic when young and evolved very slowly. It's still showing tons of black fruits with tobacco, coffee and truffle. Chewy tannins are still evident, with everything clearly signposting a great vintage from legendary winemaker Georges Pauli. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. (JA)" (05/2019)

1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the château, the 1986 Lafite-Rothschild continues to offer an exquisite bouquet at 30 years of age. This is beautifully defined, still full of energy, with copious blackberry, clove, leather and graphite aromas that seem to gain momentum in the glass. The palate is extremely well balanced with a crystalline quality, filigree tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, a quintessential Lafite-Rothschild with a sense of energy and focus undiminished by time. This finish displays immense purity and refinement, one of the most mineral-driven Lafites that I have encountered, whilst the aftertaste seems to linger for over one minute. It must rank as one of the finest wines from the estate. (NM)" (12/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 1986 DRC Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche Grand Cru (97JS). James Suckling: "This sacred masterpiece needs no introduction. I was blown away by the purity and finesse to this; it was truly stunning, indulging every sense with intense dried flowers, spices and tobacco. On the palate it was medium-bodied with wonderful, fine tannins and a awe-inspiring finish. The sheer beauty on offer here from this DRC was sensational. " (06/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (100DC, 100JD, 100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 99WS, 98ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Mouton-Rothschild is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that was picked from 2 October until 16 October. Winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, who was not working at the property back then, told me that the pH was fairly low at 3.54 when it is usually around 3.75, due to the natural tartaric acid in the vines. It has a powerful and intense bouquet as always: exemplary graphite and cedar scents, a touch of black pepper and incense. It seems to unfurl in the glass, like a motor revving its engine. The palate is beautifully balanced with its trademark firm tannic structure, a Mouton-Rothschild with backbone and masculinity. Layers of black fruit intermingling with mint and graphite, a hint of licorice emanating from the Merlot, gently fanning out and my God, it is incredibly long. It is not like the 1985 Mo

The wine has always been phenomenally concentrated, yet wonderfully fresh and vigorous. The wine still seems young, yet it is hard to believe it is not close to full maturity. It is a great example of Leoville Las Cases, and another compelling reason to take a serious look at the top Cabernet Sauvignon-based Medocs of 1986. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2035. 1986 La Lagune, Haut-Médoc
Bid on this bottle of 1986 La Lagune, Haut-Médoc (91JG, 91RP, 90VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine continues to get better and better, yet is still not close to full maturity, despite what I would have thought 16 years ago. The wine has a dense, dark plum/ruby color with just a bit of lightening at the edge. A sweet nose of black cherries intermixed with balsam wood, vanilla, and Provencal herbs has an almost Rhone-like character to it. The wine is medium to full-bodied, rich, with a lot of flesh, light to moderate tannin, and great balance and purity. (RP)" (01/2003)
