1985 Mouton-Baronne-Philippe, Pauillac

91 points Wine Spectator: "Closed and tight with lots of grape, berry, ripe fruit character. Full-bodied and alcoholic with full tannins. Try after 1997.--The Bordeaux 50. (JS)" (10/1994) K&L Notes: Critic Michael Broadbent: "...a soft red, rich, maturing; very agreeable harmonious black fruit aroma - touches of raspberry and strawberry; stylish, perfect weight, quite good length. Delicious (Jan 1995)." (Vintage Wine)

1985 Graham's Vintage Port

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Graham is the undisputed star and kingpin of the 1985 vintage ports. Yes, it is made in a sweeter style than the other ports, but it is a fabulous wine because of a dazzling level of black-cherry fruit, an enormous structure, and staggering depth, dimension, and length. (RP)" (01/1989) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Dark color, with intense aromas of blackberry, licorice and hints of flowers. Full-bodied, lightly sweet, with superrefined tannins. Long and caressing. Very youthful. Will improve for a long time. This ...

1985 E. Guigal "La Turque" Côte-Rôtie

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut vintage for this wine was especially impressive in view of the fact that the vineyard was so young. The 1985 La Turque's color remains a dark purple, with no signs of amber or lightening. The nose explodes from the glass, revealing scents of jammy black fruits, licorice, lead pencil, and smoke. Sweet, thick, highly concentrated flavors contain enough acidity and soft wood tannin to give the wine a well-focused feel. This prodigiously endowed, rich wine should continue to evolve. (RP)" (01/1997) 96 po ...

1985 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Ripe aromas of plum, currant, lead pencil and milk chocolate. Sweet but penetrating and gripping, with lovely clarity of flavor and terrific thrust. Classic claret, with lovely fruit and a very long, ripely tannic finish. A compelling example from this very elegantly styled vintage. (ST)" (07/2002) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 is a gorgeous example that may well represent a more modern-day clone of the splendid 1953. Dark ruby/garnet with an open-knit, complex, ripe ...

1985 E. Guigal Cote Rotie La Mouline

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the all-time great La Moulines, this still youthful and unevolved wine does not have the tannic ferocity of the 1988, or the sheer force and intensity of the 1978, 1976, and 1969, but it represents the epitome of this single-vineyard wine. Everything fits perfectly in this full-bodied, black/purple-colored wine that reveals no garnet or amber at the edge of its color. The nose offers up a formidable array of overripe black raspberries and cherries intertwined with scents of cedar, chocolate, olives, and t ...

1985 Maison Leroy Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Leroy Ruchottes-Chambertin is a classic example of a grand cru from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. The color is still very dark ruby, and the bouquet has just begun to release secondary aromas of grilled meats, leather, and baked red and black fruits. The high tannin levels may cause some to think the wine is rustic and rough-edged, but there is sensational concentration of fruit, a deep mid-palate, and a spectacular, long, opulent, tannic finish. 1985 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Oxidized Capsule-Bin Soiled Label)

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the most charming Beaucastels since it was first bottled (and still holding on today), is the gorgeous 1985. Its medium ruby color reveals considerable amber/pink at the edge. This offering demonstrates that a wine does not need a lot of tannin and power to age well; it’s all about balance. Velvety-textured, opulent, sweet, and appealing, this remains a classic Beaucastel. (RP)" (12/2002)

1985 Warre's Vintage Port

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ruby-colored, with grape, dark chocolate and plum. Full and chewy. Tannins are still there and need to mellow. Medium-sweet and grapey. A little one-dimensional still, but impressive. (JS, Web Only-2008)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod. Their vintage ports seem slow to develop … they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity and style. The 1985 is the sweetest and richest of the ...

1985 L'Evangile, Pomerol

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beautiful L’Evangile and one of the vintage’s top successes, the color still retains a very dense ruby/purple with only a bit of lightening at the edge. A classic nose of liquid intermixed with black raspberries., blackberries, licorice, and a hint of truffle jumps from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, very concentrated, well-balanced, sweet, authoritatively powerful yet at the same time elegant wine. It has reached full maturity , where it should rest for some time to come. (RP)" (01/2003) 93 points ...

1985 La Tour Figeac, St-Emilion (1.5L)

From the importer: "Chateau La Tour Figeac owes its name to a tower which still existed on the grounds at the end of the 19th century. Lying beside the same road as Chateau Cheval Blanc to the east, Chateau Figeac to the south, and next to Pomerol on the west, it occupies a magnificent position in the Saint-Emilion graves and ancient sands area. With the object of improving the quality of the production, each wine is aged in an air-conditioned cellar in barrels made of oak from different forest areas until the wines are finally assembled ready for bottli ...

1985 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (94VN, 90BH). Vinous: "The 1985 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is a wine that I last tasted back in May 2004 at a vertical in London. For me, this is the best vintage of that decade. The bouquet is earthy and spicy, not dissimilar to Christophe Roumier’s of that same year, although without the same delineation and complexity. This feels more feral and yet remains very attractive. The palate is medium-bodied and it is clearly at its peak of maturity. There is patently much more vigour than the 1988 tasted a few months earlier. There is weight and presence here, the tannins a tad rough around the edges and there is a dab of warmth towards the finish. Yet, you cannot deny the sheer enjoyable nature of this 1985 that in some ways harks back to the legendary wines of the 1940s and 1950s. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune. (NM)" (05/2019)

1985 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (91RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Dominus stands out for its smoky, ripe cassis, earthy nose, sweet, full-bodied, concentrated flavors, and opulently long, chewy finish. It was the most forward, precocious example of this wine I have yet tasted. Most recent tastings have suggested the wine needed further aging. This bottling exhibited the plush, velvety texture that proprietor Christian Moueix achieves in top Pomerol vintages. (RP)" (04/1995)
